Wild East
This small West Melbourne restaurant attracts a comfortable clientele for its eastern, earthy decor and the window display of spices and old style cooking equipment. The menu with its mix of Malaysian and Thai cuisines serves up an interesting cultural experience. Owner chef Susie Quah used to cook at Casa Malaya where she had a very devoted following for her authentic Malaysian dishes. She says that now "I don't want only to cook Malaysian cuisine. I want to be free to cook what I want . . . .to spread my wings and be ruled over by my heart, to provide you with the best flavours and fragrances with no restrictions in this spice of life. " Susie says that her inspiration comes from visiting the nearby Victoria Market (and Footscray, 5 minutes away) every morning before work. The results work well. It's a warm and friendly place and has its share of regular small groups.
