Supper Inn

Dinner time at the Supper Inn
Great food, simple surroundings, low prices, open late - all good reasons to seek out the Supper Inn. Don't be deterred by the entrance, it's a back lane in Chinatown and the main part of the restaurant is up a very scruffy staircase. Open the door and its not smart, glamorous or modern, it's a room filled with satisfied (or about to be satisfied) diners whose places will be immediately taken by others from the queue at the door behind you.
It's always been hard to get a table but sometimes it's just not possible and, where else can you go? Lots of choices, of course, this is Melbourne. But nowhere with the range and quality of the food at such low prices. And nowhere with the Lau family in charge, uncle John in the kitchen, father Steve and daughter Grace out front. The Laus started Supper Inn 21 years ago, and now have many loyal customers from all over Melbourne. Students come early before going to a film or club nearby. After performance, the stars (of the music and theatre worlds) come out, as do restaurateurs after they've finished work. It's a place which is not just convenient, but terrific for celebrations. The large round tables are perfect for groups. Says J. M-S "We had a wonderful birthday dinner there - because it's so cheap and festive and relaxed. I love watching theatre people arrive after a show - it makes you feel hungry on their behalf!"
