Star Restaurant
The name says it all. This purpose-built newcomer (it opened last December) is the new star Vietnamese restaurant in Footscray. The decor is simple, warm and inviting, no cutting-edge style here, thank you, but it is brand new. The food is very good and well-priced. The wine list is small, but has popular brands and is very reasonably priced. They have wine by the glass for $3-5, as well as a good range of beers, the best drink to have with most Vietnamese food. The service is good and very helpful, though there can be some language barriers, but sometimes a challenge adds spice to a meal.
This is a place to go with friends so that you can try a range of their specialities. Some of the dishes are huge, the $16 green papaya salad with seafood witll feed four easily. Dishes listed as specials come with an excellent fried rice side dish. Barbecued beef fillet is a must. There are also Thai, Cambodian and Malaysian dishes and, for late night suppers, a range of congees from $6-8. Parking is in Nicholson Street or the large public car park behind, and if you want to sing for your supper, try the karaoke upstairs.
