The Standard Hotel

The Standard Hotel proudly advertises that it has "No pokies, No TAB, No pool tables." It's an old-fashioned Aussie pub catering for beer drinkers and has provided cheap eats to students and Fitzroy locals for a quarter of a century, starting with a choice of steak, two chops or three sausages with bread and salad from $1 back in the mid 1970s. It became the watering hole for staff and volunteeers at 3RRR and 3CR and the gang from Open Channel in Victoria St. Very little has changed except the menu grows more diverse.
