Metropolitain Hotel

An atmosphere of ease and freedom prevails in this rather remarkable cafe above a motorbike repair shop in a one block little Melbourne street. Close to the RMIT and ACTU offices, it attracts all of them, teachers, unionists and students. The city now has a number of very individual, perhaps you could say eccentric, places. I prefer to think of them as the former. The food is good enough for an attractive lunch, or, for a casual coffee, there are some good cakes. As in all places, it helps to know the menu, which is simply a matter of going often enough! Risottos and Asian-style dishes are usually of good quality. The place is most likeable though for its atmosphere of ease and freedom, but with very good, efficient service. The wine list is better than most places of a similar type, and keeps changing. The key to the success of the Metropolitain is excellent management - which keeps the customers, the staff and the kitchen happy!
