Blue Tongue Wine Bar
Mietta's Eating & Drinking in Melbourne 2000
Runner up: Best Establishment, $30-45 Category Page 46
Set up by industry professionals, the Blue Tongue tried valiantly not to let the cat (with the tongue) out of the bag. Matthew Little, Nicholas Savage and Peter Stubbs didn't want any publicity. We respected their wishes until reviews were published elsewhere, so we asked politely if they wanted to be included in the book last year. They agreed but still continue not to accept bookings and have not yet put up a sign. It's a case of if you don't know where it is, then you shouldn't. Makes it hard for anyone other than locals to enjoy the very good food and buzzy atmosphere of this place. However if you want to savour the modern Australian dishes, come early. It gets very noisy from 9pm onwards. As R.T. said, it's a case of 'eat and beat it' or 'stay and play'.
