Waiting

Waiting at Becco

One of the Melbourne meeting places. Nothing discreet about it, everyone can see who you are dining with from the large windows along Crossley Street and the place inside is completely open. But what meetings take place here, it's the hub of the political, art, business, and academic worlds. People love the atmosphere here and the keen trio of owners, one of whom is always present. There's lots going on, the bar down one end is noisy and fun, the open kitchen has a number of busy white-hatted heads bobbing around and down the Bourke St end is the shop. Amongst the many recommendations Becco received this year were some which singled out the fish cooking. One in particular, was from a senior politician who rarely eats fish but likes the way it is done at Becco and for J M-S " the dish was salmon on mashed potato - very simple and perfectly cooked. With a butter lettuce and walnut salad." But Becco has its critics, some of the dishes just don't work but people-watching sure does. From the people-not plate-corner comes the following -- "Ahhh Becco. I find this place hard to fault. There is always a happy buzz at Becco and the staff are friendly but unobtrusive. I think every man and his dog loves Becco, so there’s a good chance you might see a well-known face or two either at a table or at the bar with the other smokers".
