Mietta’s E&D covers all aspects of the Melbourne restaurant, café and bar scene. It includes hundreds of simple cheap places, coffee stops and bars as well as the most expensive. This diversity belongs in any publication that tries to describe the dining/drinking experience in Melbourne. No longer, is it good enough to just list a few ‘top’ restaurants - after all, how often do most people go out for a slap up dinner - once or twice a year perhaps - but most people go out that many times a day for coffee. It would appear logical that information relating to these low key experiences has a real place in such a book as this. It is self-evident that the health of the top level of the restaurant industry depends on having a vigorous foundation which constantly throws up fresh talent and ideas, a foundation based upon hundreds and hundreds of simple ethnic restaurants, the little cafes that are rejuvenating the shopping strips of our city and suburbs.
