Sunday Times Dennis Lingane, 26-03-06 "The Metropole Hotel was built in 1899 and Karren Millner is its new licensee. Although only taking on the licence four months ago, Karren and her partner Kevin have carried on the restoration work started by the previous owner. This included external renovations, upgrading of the main bar and the establishment of a new upstairs bar for patrons to sit out on the veranda and look out over Loopline Park. The Metropole's main bar retains its most famous attraction - a mining shaft under the floor in the middle of the bar, now viewable through a glass panel."
