Red VaultPh: (03) 9510 1062; 37-39 Chapel St, WINDSOR 3181 Cocktail/Wine Bar, $ - Other published opinions The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Dominated by its to-the-ceiling bottle cabinet, this crisp, cool wine bar has a wide-ranging list (comprehensive in pricing, regions and varieties) and doesn't forget the service: the enthusiastic, informed staff are one of the bar's distinguishing features" The Age Michael Harden, 18-9-2007 "Red Vault is one of the Windsor newcomers making a particular style pitch. First impressions might have you popping it into a typical Chapel Street box: another joint with a well-sized renovation budget that stretches for the deluxe, plush end of the spectrum - complete with raised communal table, screens made from twigs, cushioned and upholstered banquettes, ottomans and burnt-red carpet. A dinky fireplace with a feeble gas flame in a rear alcove does nothing to dispel the feeling that Red Vault is just another interior design-mag fashion victim aimed at impressionable young airheads, but this is a bar that rewards perseverance." The Age Clem Bastow, 12-7-2007 "More completely titled the Red Vault Wine Lovers Bar, this newish venue lives up to its name, presenting upwards of 350 varieties of fermented grape juice for your delectation. Where the wine portion of the drinks menu was once, for most bars, a simple collection of "red", "white"and - if you're really lucky - "sparkling", Red Vault's wine list is dizzying indeed. From pinot gris to sparkling red to sangiovese (and with Australian, Imported, Vintage and a combination of all of the above in each genre), you'd be drinking for a decade or so non-stop before you sampled everything; the list notes 21 cab savs alone." |
