The Age Cheap Eats 2009 "While the rest of the Prince of Wales Hotel gets on with the business of being all designerchicgroovy, the raucous, potswilling, sportsTVblaring Prince Public Bar keeps it real for those who like their pub to be a pub"

The Age Michael Harden, 28-4-2008 "Of course, this sort of butch pub-posturing at the Prince is all part of the plan. Originally, the public bar was kept deliberately downmarket to show that it was "keeping it real", even as the rest of the Prince complex was being spruced up. The "honouring the pub's heritage" line placated the notoriously touchy St Kilda resident groups. But now keeping it real is just another theme on a heavily touristed strip and the pool tables, sports TV, jukebox, pinball machine (Spider-Man) and walls carefully patterned with band flyers say less about what the public bar once was than what St Kilda has become."

The Age Craig Platt November 30, 2005 "The Prince is where old and new St Kilda collide. Inside the complex ... are venues catering to the richest, trendiest locals and visitors. Circa, the Prince's restaurant, is one of Melbourne's best ... In the basement, Mink is the place for well-dressed and cashed-up drinkers, while on a Saturday night the Prince Band Room becomes a nightclub ....Then there's the public bar. Apart from the installation of some shiny new fridges, the street-front bar has managed to resist the allure of ubiquitous St Kilda trendiness."
