Mietta's Review
Even though a lot offer similar menus at similar prices, most Melburnians have a favourite Vietnamese restaurant along Victoria Street, and this one happens to be popular amongst many. Cheap, fast, and friendly, the food is fresh- crispy and juicy in all the right places. Children are welcome and when there is indecision over the menu waiters are happy to guide you through.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Dainty eaters - make room for leftovers in your fridge. Thanh Phong is Vietnamese for 'those who like it large', from the complimentary green salad (huge like the Hulk's head) to the special combination pancake - duckling-yellow and packed with vegies and meat, it's folded and fat like a bizarre ravioli and is an absolute monster"

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 All over this Victoria Street joint there are hand-drawn posters proclaiming the 'specials'. Only thing is, virtually all of these dishes also feature on the regular menu, too.

The Age Epicure Matt Preston 5/7/05 "I've never been here before but that's the beauty of Victoria Street's Vietnamese restaurants - everyone seems to have a different favourite. And the purrer's is the Thanh Phong - a love she shares with some of my favourite minor celebrities, including Poppy King, 3AW's Buy, Swap and Sell host Darren James, and risotto queen Tamara Milstein, who sneaks in here to eat pork and prawn rice paper rolls, the chicken coleslaw and a strange tricolour dessert of kidney beans and coconut milk."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "THE hurly-burly ambience is almost as busy as the menu (183 items? Really?) at this cheery Victoria Street veteran. Students and office workers form the backbone of the clientele, drawn by the restaurant's chatter-friendly vibe and simple, robust cuisine."

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'We think they have the best spring rolls here;perfectly crisp and deliciously more-ish.Wrap them up in lettuce with hot mint and away you go.'
