Mietta's Review
Built in 1900 this old pub that brings the best of two worlds together. An excellent and extensive wine list, beer on tap and better than average pub fare. Popular with locals and those willing to travel for the chance to sit by the fire and enjoy a relaxed night out.

Other published opinions

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 12.5/20 "In looks, style, service and menu, the Swallows is a cheery, appealingly old-fashioned pub. The dining room, divided from the bar by a doublesided fireplace, sets a cosy scene with linencovered tables, a blackboard advertising specials, Bugatti memorabilia all over the walls and, if you're lucky, a fleeting appearance by an ageing, resident border collie"

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "What could be better than a laid-back pub with a kitchen that sends out top comfort food? What about one with unusually slick service delivered by black-clad waiters who are knowledgeable, efficient and discreet?"

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 "START at the bar with an ice-cold beer and a chat with the barkeep, then move through to the dining room adorned with motor-racing memorabilia, period ephemera, a double-sided fireplace and a resident collie lingering just outside. Settle in behind linen-covered tables and delve into the deep wine list"

The Age, Epicure,1/6/04,Daniella Miletic,'The Swallows holds on to the Port pub tradition.Go in for a big meal,a beer at the bar,or for some live jazz on a Sunday night.'
