Herald Sun 10-06-08 Score: *** "Libertine is a small and determinedly French bistro"

Herald Sun 8-06-08 "Parisian chandeliers and an intimate dining space make the perfect setting for a cosy dinner-a-deux"

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 14/20 "This tiny French bistro only opened in September 2005, yet feels as if it's been around for years. Perhaps that's explained by the opulent interior, where chandeliers, rich red tapestries and t:;' brocade-upholstered banquettes offer a pleasant : change from the hegemony of muted colour "

Gourmet Traveller 2008 Australian Restaurant Guide "There are plenty of places doing the French bistro schtick in Melbourne but few raise their heads above the level of tired cliche"

The Age John Lethlean, 21-11-2005 Score: 14.5/20 "Libertine is a tiny 40-seater in an old part of North Melbourne that reminds us of the restaurants we used to have before eating out became entertainment for the masses. Upholstered banquettes line two flanks of the rectangular room; burgundy tapestries hang on one wall, mirrors line the other; cutglass chandeliers hang from the ceiling. It walks a fine line between formal and tongue-in-cheek, but one thing is for sure, the table spacing and intimacy of the place means you will dine in hushed tones, lest the neighbours hear more than they need to. Nina Simone is just audible in the background. It's that sort of place; a wine buff's date restaurant."

Herald Sun Stephen Downes Dining Out 17/1/06 score 13/20 "I'd like to try Libertine at dinner when choices are more extensive and dishes more complex. Service was excellent, and the wine list is strong on French, Italian and Spanish drops t prices from about $30 a bottle. Three table whites and the same number of reds come by the glass."
