Mietta's Review
There are many that return to Akita over and over again. Whilst the decor is not magazine layout material, it is comfortable enough to linger over dinner, and the warmth of the service and the reliability of the flavours more than compensate. The menu is traditional Japanese that caters to the Australian palate with the odd twist here and there. The wine list is limited but BYO is welcome.

Other published opinions

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 13/20 "After more than 20 years, Akita is clearly comfortable in its own skin. Many restaurants strive to create a sense of event; this one creates a sense of coming home"

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 1 hat "THERE'S nothing flashy about Akita, but that's just the way its legion of loyal customers likes it. Simplicity is the key, found in the homely series of small rooms with their bare wooden tables, the friendly, helpful service, and in the approach to the wonderful food that has kept the place full year after year."

Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide Australia 2004,'resembles a cosy pub...The dining area is a spread of several rooms, with efficient but unobtrusive kimono-clad staff...Dishes are ideal to share, with a good mix of seafood and meat.'
