Mietta's Review
Enforced closure during the 1998 gas strike allowed Stalactities to do some renovations and also made them buy a lock. Never had to close up before and so the doors were always open on this 24 hour Greek cafe which made it the place for that very late meal. You can always get a reasonable Greek salad which usually comes with freshly baked hot bread. There are all the traditional Greek dishes, most popular are moussaka and souvlaki. Some people swear by the mixed grills. For most it's chosen for convenience. This long established business, has served most of Melbourne, drunk or sober, at the laminex tables during its nineteen years of life. Breakfasts from 5-11am daily include Eye Openers, Australian Morning and a Rich Breakfast (sausages, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes and toast). During "normal" meal hours this family business does a good trade and has a very mixed group of customers.

Other published opinions

The Age A3 Melbourne for night owls Tim Richards 12/1/05 "This is one of the old-time souvlaki joints, operating from its stucco-ceilinged premises 24 hours a day. At the corner of Russell and Lonsdale streets, it's an anchor of the city's Greek Precinct."
