Mietta's Review
An accessible Shanghainese restaurant on Little Bourke St - most of the more extreme places are hidden in nearby lanes. Prices are a little higher than some of the competition which probably reflects a higher than usual level of comfort. The food is laced with chilli and the degree of heat is marked on the menu with one two or three bright red chillis. Service is attentive though one could forgiven feeling that it's more in the interests of turnover than customer comfort. This is a busy restaurant with a fairly mixed clientele.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Check the menu chilli rating at Spicy Fish: it's one pepper for medium heat, three for a redfaced, eye-watering, mouth-searing, water-sculling experience"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Spicy Fish's name inspires its menu and its namesake dish is blow-yourhead-off hot. This unassuming Chinatown newcomer is winning over dumpling aficionados and chilli fiends happy to forgive the lack of atmosphere and perfunctory service."
