The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Tucked semi-secretly between the Yarra and Fed Square, Riverland's urban riverbank setting is one of the most convivial perches for a sunny afternoon beer in the CBD"

The Age Clem Bastow, 15-11-2007 "Riverland itself, designed by 6 Degrees, is half enclosed, half open-air. The covered sections peer inside the "vaults" under Federation Square, all bare brick and minimal decoration. The outdoor settings (surrounding the drool-inducing aromas of the sausage barbecue) are a jumble of bar stools, long tables and cafe settings on decking, overlooking the Yarra and occasional rowing tournaments across the river. Artful flower arrangements (jars of kangaroo paw in a rusty cage, for example) dot the bar, and there are plenty of gas heaters for when the wind comes whistling down from the bay."

The Age Michael Harden, 11-12-2006 "The view from Riverland, the Six Degrees-designed bar and cafe occupying nine of the Yarra-side bluestone vaults below Federation Square, gives glimpses of several familiar Melbourne landmarks but from an unfamiliar angle. After a drink or two, it's quite easy to imagine you've landed somewhere in Europe, despite the presence of the blue-spotted Arts Centre spire. Perhaps it's the elegant underside curve of the Princes Bridge framing the lights on the south bank of the river or the historic bluestone backdrop of the vaults themselves but whatever the reason, spending time at Riverland watching the slow glide of the Yarra certainly feels like a vacation."

The Age Cheap Eats Bars 2007 "on the riverbank below Fed Square, Riverland's sensational outdoor deck, replete with island booths, is the ultimate urban beer garden."
