Mietta's Review Gillie Lau makes a concerted effort to keep her standards high. Importing special ingredients from overseas in order to give the food a point of difference and paying close attention to detail ensures that Pepper Chilli remains just as she likes it.
Other published opinions
Qantas in flight magazine October Rita Erlich "They use chilli beautifully here. The hot
and sour soup has a great range of ingredients; flavours and textures are complex even though chilli is dominant.
Gastronomically speaking, it's like an actor upstaging a good cast of flavours."
The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 12/20 "Perched above Little Bourke Street, within a stage whisper of several theatres, Pepper Chilli is a Chinatown stayer. Up a flight of stairs you'll find a quiet city sanctuary, replete with mustard walls, banquet chairs draped in crimson brocade and tinkling muzak. As the name suggests, spicy food is the speciality here"
The Age Good Food Guide 2005 "THERE'S been movement at the station and this Chinatown establishment is deservedly back on the culinary radar. Look carefully for the street-level sign before climbing the stairs to the semiformal pink-red dining room, with well-spaced tables and chairs wearing flounced skirts. The extensive menu is focused on the cuisines of Shanghai, Peking and Sichuan,"
Herald Sun, Sunday Magazine, eating out, Sally Fisher, 2003. Watch their noodles being made by hand live in the restaurant.
