Mietta's Review
A place for drinking, smoking and checking out the DJs choices. Some nights there are poetry readings, films and special events. During the day it is quite different. Always a lot of students reading, playing pool, sometimes studying and often eating the good value large meals that can be ordered from the display counter. Eating out on the balcony in fine weather has great appeal for city office workers in their lunch hour and you will often see a lot of suits out there after work on Fridays drinking beer and wines by the glass

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "This veteran piece of Melbourne furniture is an enduringly popular space that mutates from bar to restaurant to club"

The Age Larissa Dubecki, 25-1-2007 "Cafe/bar/club/art gallery/performance space, this stalwart has notched up almost two decades, pioneering Swanston Street as a destination and proving, judging by the wide age range of its clientele, that you can relive your glory days without looking like a sad case."

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Happily, the Lounge has kept its killer formula intact: cheap mod-Oz tucker, a top bar, pool tables and DJs. Its more-central-than-Flinders-Street location makes it first-stop for students, suits and music nerds heading out for the night (although many kick back on the tree-top balcony and fail to move on)."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 You'd be hard pressed to find a Melburnian who hasn't 'ended up at the Lounge'. It's easy to see why: there's music from the '8Os through to drum 'n' bass, a tree-top balcony, and pool tables.

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "CLIMBING the many stairs is the only barrier to beers and cheers for students who've made this bar their second home."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004, Good Bar,Somewhere we highly recommend,'This place serves as a de facto caff for space-deprived refugees from nearby RMIT.You'll find them on the couches by the pool table,or on the treetop balcony...The dimming light ushers in the dinner crowd, whom the uberhip staff ply with tasty baked ricotta and spinach dumplings'

Herald Sun, Sunday Magazine, 3/8/03, Sally Fisher,'This is a music venue and has a barn-like feel with that strange pong of spilled beer mixed with antiseptic.'
