Mietta's Review
The tiny tables support large plates of pasta, and the bar, the elbows of the drinkers. Dark wood lined and clubby, this is an essential part of the city for a coffee, a bowl of pasta or a glass of wine - all in the company of like minded Melburnians. See also Florentino Grill Room and the Grossi Florentino.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Upstairs Grossi calls for fancy pants. ill Downstairs Grossi gives an everyday, everyman experience, and clean Levis do just fine"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "A favourite lunch spot for Melbourne's literati, the timber-panelled Cellar Bar (bambino to the grand upstairs Florentino) is a food and wine institution with an old-Melbourne ambience that you simply can't buy."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Why is it that some places with barrel decor, theatrical waiters and foreign-language menus seem contrived, while others win you over? Maybe it's the difference between being Italian-style and being Italian. Grossi is definitely the latter

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 Pre and Post Theatre "The kitchen is open until midnight, so you can have a post-performance postmortem over a formaggio platter."

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "FOR those of us with champagne tastes on a beer budget, this is as close to utopia as you'll find. Part of the famous FIorentino establishment, the Cellar Bar offers sublime but simple Italian fare in a warm, intimate space."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "the Cellar Bar, where you can have a reasonably priced pasta downstairs while other folk shell out hundreds for the pleasure of dining upstairs in the Mural Room."
