Mietta's Review
A nice little bargain priced French cafe serving classic bistro dishes to an inner suburban clientele. Stripped brich walls, wooden chairs and linen tablecoths (with paper overlays) provide the setting. The waiters are French and very efficient though too busy to talk. The wine list is well cjosen and reasonably priced. This place offers nothing new but then it doesn't have to.

Other published opinions

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 13/20 "This isn't fine dining but a fast, fun spin through the highlights of provincial France. Service seems to operate on a system known only to the insouciant staff, and you might have to ask several times for a description of the soup du jour - but who cares?"

Herald Sun Stephen Downes score 11/20, 30/11/04 "Some might argue that better restaurant food can't be produced at these prices. It's no argument. Too much of Batifolles' output was disappointing and slapdash. Two young Frenchwomen made a fair hand of the service, and you may practise your language skills with them. The wine is limited but well-priced: six whites, five reds and a rose are available by glass."

The Age Epicure John Lethlean, Nov 9, 2004 Score 14/20. "A quirky, rather old-fashioned little brasserie offering good cooking from a chef/patron and even better value for money." Typical small dish $9; typical main $19
