Mietta's Review
Set apart from the tomfoolery that is Brunswick Street proper, Newtown Social Club does what it sets out to do, serve the best coffee on the street to accompany simple meals at breakfast, lunch and what lies in between (usually a yummy brownie). Not only do the staff know each customer by name but the customers seem to know each other, it's a haven for locals and those who work around its periphery. Tasty filled pides, and home made soups at lunch and toast with your favourite toppings for brekkie. Great place for the first coffee of the day when the eye sights not quite focussed and ears are still sensitive.

"If 8 out of 10 fitzroy locals reckon Brunswick St. has gone to the dogs, 6 of tehm will name Newtown SC as their favorite coffee spot." The Herald Sun, food&drink, 29/2/00, table talk. "Grooviest addition to the Bruswick Street cafe scene is newtown Social Club located in the booming stretch of south of Johnston Street. brilliant coffee, fantastic lighty snacks for breakfast and lunch, great music and hip surrounds have made this the place for all the bright young things in Fitzroy."
