Fairfield Park BoathousePh: (03) 9486 1501; Fairfield Park Dve, Fairfield 3078 www.fairfieldboathouse.com Cafe Fare, $ Other published opinions The Age Matt Preston, 29-4-2008 "almost by accident, I find myself at Fairfield Boathouse. Well, actually, I find myself at the modern balcony of the Studley Park Boathouse, tucking into a breakfast of buttery scrambled eggs with snags and bacon, and a pot of weak plungered English breakfast tea when I get the call telling me that I am at the wrong boathouse. I actually should be a winding six-kilometre paddle, or five-minute drive, upstream. After some consideration, I drive. Fairfield Boathouse is assuredly not a foodie location. Some may find it twee, almost to the point of theme-park quaintness, but I like the slavish attention to "historical" detail, from the blizzard of faux-antique painted advertising signs and old photos, to the endearingly daggy little muscat and chardonnay barrels on the bar." The Age Good Food Guide 2006 Afternoon Tea "A little down-at-heel, perhaps, but the rickety wooden building and scrubby bush environs take you back to an era when rowing around in circles on the river was the done thing at weekends." The Age, Agenda, 16/5/04,Roslyn Grundy,'With the bellbirds chiming in the gum trees and water lapping around your hired kayak, it's hard to believe the city is just a few kilometres downriver. After a paddle, head back to the boathouse for some scones and jam or chocolate fudge sundae in ye olde tearoom, complete with faux Victorian signage,or one of the hefty meals from the outdoor grill.' |
