A great asset for its locals, but on Sundays, Haveli attracts Indians from all over Melbourne for its southern Indian vegetarian brunch with a substantial range of dishes of good quality and variety. There is a large display kitchen here and at the front is the griddle where the giant dosas are cooked. These are like pancakes but made to an enormous size whilst remaining lacy fine. They are picked up and quickly shaped round a wooden tube and then served looking like a parchment manuscript. Also popular are dishes from the tandoori oven - lamb chops and salmon.

You're invited to see the tandoor ovens but what comes out of them is more interesting. Tandoori salmon marinated in tandoori spices and yoghurt was special. The rogan josh is a winner with tender chunks of lamb saffron and yoghurt. They actually did win a prize this year for their chicken butter cream (which they call the haveli special). It's cooked with tomato and delicate spices and finished with a delicious cashew nut cream sauce. There's a wide choice of vegetarian dishes."
