Mietta's Review
Whilst housed in a distinctive old building, this suburban favourite's decor is comfortable and contemporary without a trace of customary Indian artwork or handicrafts. Its regionalism is in the menu that features predominantly Northern Indian dishes, with specials list covering specialities from other regions. The welcome is warm and the service hospitable from the delightful family of owner Jaspal Ghandi. You can enjoy a quiet and relaxing dinner at good value prices served by charming hosts.

Other published opinions

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "Euro-style decor and jazzy tunes might throw first-timers. This is an Indian restaurant, right? Fear not - turbaned waiters and the heady scent of spices provide the real clues: this is trad north Indian tucker given a fancy spin"

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 13.5/20 "Bombay by Night is the child prodigy of an inspired union between Melbourne restaurant chic - soft lights, modern jazz, black-and-white prints, wine-stacked rows of timber cabinetry and proud, skilful Indian cooking that's unafraid of experimentation and innovation"

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "If you ignore the scent of spices and prints of Indian life on the walls, you might mistake this restaurant for a European bistro. This sophisticated eatery mostly saves the subcontinental flourishes for the food."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 One of Melbourne's classier Indian restaurants is, mercifully, still firmly in Cheap Eats territory. Despite the evocative name, BBN is understated, with its muted colour scheme, flickering tea lights and black-and-white photos on the walls.

The Age Good Food Guide 2006 score 14/20 "With its high ceilings, soft downlighting and creamy walls, Bombay by Night could be mistaken for a fashionable European cafe. Until you spot the smart prints featuring Indian idylls and icons (among them Sachin Tendulkar). Turbaned chef and owner Jaspai Gandhi glides between the two dining rooms directing staff and guiding uncertain diners."

The Foodies' Guide 2004,Allan Campion & Michele Curtis,'The thing we like best about Bombay by Night is that we don't have to choose our dinner;we just order the takeaway banquet. For just under $30 you get three curries, rice, roti and raita.Or you can take the hard road and try to decide from the large menu, and you may want to add a side order of kulfi for dessert,it's so good.'

2004 AGFG, score 14/20, wide selection vegatarian dishes, two courses for $25
