Mietta's Review
Flor is found in the premises that once held Fives, a seminal inner suburban BYO. These days there's no need to carry the esky as this great little wine bar stocks more than any BYO devotee could ever carry. Real sherry, single malts (dozens) and a great wine cellar is augmented by good tapas and enjoyable bistro dishes. Open for brunch at weekends if you need a heart starter.

Other published opinions

Herald Sun Extra Food, Stephen Downes, 11-11-08 Score: * "Flor serves great dishes at good prices in a true bistro ambience"

Herald Sun Stephen Downes, 28-10-08 "On a North Carlton corner that has been a restaurant as long as I can remember, Flor serves great dishes at good prices in a true bistro ambience. While greedy restaurateurs around are doing their damnedest to push up prices, Flor deserves you patronage Leaving a fair amount of the flaky-pastry nase uncooked was the only significant kitchen mistake of the meal. Chefs, you just have to cook pastry; do I really need to keep repeating it? The very bottom of the pastry disc was done, and three lobes of terrific poached quince posed above"

The Age Cheap Eats 2008 "If romance is amiss, seek solace in the cosy confines of Flor Wine Bar. Enticingly sensual, this intimate Canton hideaway will inflame your passions with alluring morsels: brazen chorizo fried in sherry, cheeky cod cakes with pea-and-onion chutney, and a suave selection of the finest olives"

The Age Larissa Dubecki, 30-10-2006 "This is what you want a local wine bar to be, with wood panelling, vintage quaffing posters and a pleasant feel of faded Euro gentility."

The Age Cheap Eats 2007 "Stranded somewhere between North Fitzroy and Fitzroy proper, this dark-wood retreat is easy to miss, but perhaps that contributes to its appeal - Flor is a relaxed and intimate spot for a vino-charged catch-up."

The Age Cheap Eats 2006 Dark-wood surrounds, a first-class wine list that stretches from Barossa to Beaujolais, and guidance from vino-versed waitstaff make a long tipple-charged stay at Flor inevitable.

The Age Cheap Eats 2005 "Tipplers return to this wood-panelled bar because Valdespino Pedro Ximenez sherry holds tight on the ever-changing wine list, and there are more than 35 whiskies and a global showcase of beers on offer."

The Age Cheap Eats 2004 "OVER the past couple of years, Flor has worked the angles to cater for weekend breakfasters, late-night tapas fans and single-malt whisky fiends (36 on offer), but its extensive wine cellar is the real drawcard."

Age To Go Melinda Houston 22/5/04 "Is it a cafe? Is a restaurant? Is it a bar? Well, as most people come here for the cellar, let's call it a bar. Flor runs from breakfast through to supper - and does all that well"

The Age, Epicure, Unexplored Territory, 3/9/02, Matt Preston. "A laid-back, slow-food spot where a quick drink after work could easily spill messily into dinner". SImple but very good food, arriving in generally huge serves.
