Mietta's Review
Oji is the sort of place people boast to their friends about as being their own little discovery. And fair enough too, because this charming little Japanese is easy to miss. It's not exactly big and the decor has a curious ex-government feel to it with varnished wooden fittings and a couple of those paper screens that always make me think of the old 'The Samurai' TV series. Still, it's functional, stylish and very, well, Japanese. In fact the only thing elaborate about Oji is the sensational food which explains why it packs out just about every night of the week with people trying the sushi as well as some more exotic-sounding dishes I didn' t dare go near. Couples sit cheek-by-jowel next to parties of ten of more all wedged into what space there is, creating an atmosphere that's noisy, bright and busy.

The Age, Sunday Life, John Lethlean, 23/11/03, Traditional and popular, Oji is another stayer in the Junction precint.Kimonos, sushi and sashimi are the order of the day so don't go for a taste of new-wave Japanese cooking. It's on the 'wet' side but you can also BYO.'
