Mietta's Review
The clever renovation which transformed the hotel by the station into a smart cafe bistro continues to attract the beautiful young things of the beachside suburbs. But they come as much to drink as to eat at this born again pub. The crowd makes the atmosphere here - it's the meeting place of the area.

Other published opinions

The Age, Sunday Life, 21/12/03, Dani Valent,'This mulit-zoned operation is bright and spacious with wide-roaming menus.Pick from the cafe menu- favourites include corn fritters with smoked salmon and roti wrapped duck. Top bistro dishes are scotch fillet and wood-fired pizzas.'

The Age, Sunday Life, 4/8/02, Dani Valent. "Uniformily good food, a "just out of the oven" cake blackboard and sometimes scatty service."

The Sunday Age, 16.07.00, John Hindle review "The room is more than pleasant and, with work, Half Moon could become a serious restaurant. However the service, while willing and friendly, was a bit matey and uncoordinated, and the food that we were served was disappointing. But I can't deny or ignore the fact that other diners seemed pleased with their Half Moon experience. Score: two stars."

The Sunday Age, 07.02.99 "If you think the Half Moon hotel is just the local, you're mistaken. It's several eateries under one roof. There's the chic bistro and bar, a cafe and casual eatery and a smart and comfortable restaurant. Sure it's trendy: anyone who thinks they're someone flocks here."

The Age, 04.11.97, Claude Forell review "Half Moon isn't half bad; indeed it houses Brighton's best-by-far restaurant with a sophisticated contemporary cuisine if you don't mind the hotel ambience and sometimes exuberant clientele. Score: two to three stars."

The Melbourne Weekly, 14.10.97, John Lethlean review "Generous serves of interesting food in a relaxed, stylishly-designed space. Good service. Quite the model of professionalism really. Score: three stars."
