Mietta's Review
Stylish with an impressive sushi bar at the front and Western seating and tables throughout. The menu offers a very good selection of dishes some done better than others. The kushiage, seafood, a bit like tempura on sticks with a crumbed batter was good. Interesting selection of deserts: an mitsu bowl (a bowl filled with fresh fruits, kanten cubes, a firm clear jelly made from agar-agar, and adzuki bean paste in sweet syrup).

Age Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 13/20 "The importance of a reliable Japanese local is nudging the priority of a good nearby cafe and for many, Sozai may well fit the bill, serving food in typically clean style in a space that defines a minimal Japanese aesthetic, designed by Melbourne architects Six Degrees"

The Sunday Age, Sunday Life, Eat Streets, 4/5/03, John Lethlean. The menu is unimaginative and the preparation does sometimes appear to lack effort.

The Age, Sunday Life, Eat Streets,3/8/03, John Lethlean,'The eclectic, recycled materials used to decorate Sozai have a calming effect and work well with the fodd.Go for the sushi made to order.'
