Mietta's Review
Dockside sounds and salty smells of the fishing fleet. Great sushi and sashimi and authentic Japanese exquisitries - all fresh and wonderful. Excellence in every respect.

Other published opinions

CitySearch Greame Phillips April 2006 "Cray, tuna and squid boats, line fishermen, abalone divers and in-shore fish-punters tie up and deliver fresh to chef Shige Hatano's front door. They also provide those wonderful extra ingredients: the background sounds and salty smells of the fishing fleet that make dining here such an enjoyable experience"

Gourmet Traveller 2006 Restaurant Guide "For almost 20 years Orizuru has been serving some ofthe finest sashimi and sushi in the country. This place has it all - an alluring waterfront location, flapping-fresh fish delivered straight from Mures's fishing boat that moors metres away, and a chef who knows how to select and respectfully prepare it."

Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide Australia 2005 "The view from Orizuru across Waterman's Dock to the revitalised Hunter St precinct is one of the most alluring you will find anywhere. The sight ofthe fishing fleet bobbing at its moorings as you sip your Sapporo beer reminds you that the fish you about to devour will be some ofthe freshest in the country."

AGFG & SMH GFG 2004,'Pretty good to find such a good Japanese eatery not just in town, but down at the docks. There are great views of the sandstone factories and the fishing boats bringing in their bounty.Bento boxes, including a braised dish or tempura, are for the bargain hunters, but it's Orizuru's spanking-fresh sushi and sashimi that have heads spinning.'

Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide Australia 2004, Good vegetarian options,'is quite the right place to be eating expertly cut morsels of local fish...there's plenty to choose from.At all times, the welcome is warm, the service friendly and above all, food is simply delicious.'
