Mietta's Review
Salt has a very rare comodity - food that tastes better than it reads on the classically based bistro menu and which is served at a competitive price (mains $26). It's hard to see why you'd go anywhere else in Glenelg. The largish room is divided by a vast island bar in dark wood strips with stainless trim and a column with similar treatment. Floor to ceiling windows run around three sides flooding the the place with light and sea views. The setting is simple with the one concession to luxury being a linen serviette. The service lacks focus and the place hasn't decided whether it's a bar or a restaurant. Perhaps a problem imposed by a position which is more about promenading than fine food. But you visit Salt for the food, it's amongst Adelaide's best. Main courses around $26.00.

Other published opinions

Adelaide Advertiser 2006 "At the entrance to the Holdfast Shores complex, this wrap-around glass space offers enticing glimpses of the Gulf but better views of the moored boats. It's seaside, relaxed and youthful. Add olive greens and dark brown treatments, casually set tables, comfy soft chairs, a big surround bar that rules the main dining area and a laid-back corner lounge and you sense this is the epitome of relaxed, modern Euro bar and bistro with a dose of Aussie beach culture."

Gourmet Traveller 2005 Australian Restaurant Guide * "Seaside serendipity. Salt is the groovy restaurant and wine bar that looks over the expensive toys moored in the Holdfast Shores Marina. It is owned by Peter Rimington, who has a chef like-minded in his quest forfresh ingredients. James Bodroghy is passionate, incisive and refuses to cut corners."

Adelaide Advertiser 29/9/04 score 14.5 Tony Love. "Modern design makes this a swish venue beside Glenelg's marina and, with accomplished chef James Bodroghy now at the helm, the food is starting to achieve proper recognition. Service and wine knowledge needs to be sorted for more complete experience. Mains: $20-$28.50 Desserts: $12-$14 Wheelchair access and facilities: Yes Wine list: Fair Corkage: $12/bottle" Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide Australia 2004,'It has a fabulous view, a broad terrace for outdoor eating, and a clever chef with a good pedigree...simple yet delicious...The contemporary dining room is very comfortable, and there's a sociable lounge area beside an island bar.Indeed, Salt can feel more like a bar on weekend evenings.'
