Mietta's Review
New ownership and new kitchen staff have improved this once famous watering hole. Now the recently refurbished dining room with its comfortable table-clothed elegance is a reason to visit. The food has also improved though it tends towards the elaborate at the expense of flavour. The Stag has retained something of the eclectic mix of drinkers who used the place in the heyday of the East End markets. This crowd is leavened somewhat by wedding parties, tourists and other Rundle Street habitues and occasional visitors from outback South Australia. The pub looks out onto the eastern parklands and could not be a more pleasant spot for a Sunday afternoon beer.

Other published opinions

Adelaide Advertiser 2006 "Fine dining meets hotel hip in one of the most fashionable pubs in the East End. The renovated Stag dining room oozes class without being pretentious, from the magnificent wrought iron chandelier to the attentive and educated waiting staff."

The Advertiser 26/10/05 Tony Love score 16/20 "New crew in the kitchen at this popular pub turn the Stag into one of the East End's top-shelf dining destinations."

Sunday Mail 11/9/05 "Take your credit card but be rewarded with a good night out. The food and service meet the high standards The Stag has set itself. And while the establishment is swish, the atmosphere is by no means stuffy."

The Advertiser, food & wine, 24/3/04, Tony Love, Score 13/20,'A light and airy room with a view to the East Ends's parklands;quiet at lunch but busy Friday and Saturday nights. The menu is a touch limited but this is good pub dining which shows promise.'
