Mietta's Review
An old converted Queenslander with much of its charm intact. 'We might be a bit old, but they love us' the cheeriest of waitresses informed me. I believed it. Breezes whispering by, cheeky staff, talkative diners and slightly annoying music. The food is professional homey and sometimes sophisticated. With its predominately white interior, blue and red trim, louvres open to the sea breeze and plenty of confidence at reasonable prices for Port Douglas, a good little joint to sit at the bar or move toward the sea and seek casual enjoyment in the menu with something for everyone.

Other published opinions

Courier Mail food and wine guide Queensland 2008 Score: 13/20 "Under the eye of executive chef Goran Zonai, co-owner Bill Conway presents what he refers to as Tropical Modern Australian cuisine under the tin roof of a handsomely refurbished Queenslander"

Gourmet Traveller 2006 Australian Restaurant Guide "Ten years young, the palm-set site of Salsa is pure Queensland, light and breezy. So is the youthful energy that runs through the place; informality, with professional management and hospitality, is the backbone here."

Courier-Mail Goodlife Restaurant Guide 2006 "Modern food with a spicy edge is served by friendly staff from throughout the world. The wine list is well written,"

Courier-Mail Goodlife Restaurant Guide 05 "This is the meeting place for just about all of Port Douglas, with a steady stream of celebs, including Bill Clinton and Sean Penn, having pulled up a chair over the years. Sitting overlooking the quaint St Mary's by the Sea chapel with views beyond to the water, it's a funky place with a great vibe and very friendly ambience."

Gourmet Traveller Australian Restaurant Guide 2005 "The hub of Port Douglas and a great favourite with locals, Salsa plays great music all day and hosts live bands on selected Sundays and special occasions. The atmosphere underneath the leafy canopy is very laid-back, and in summer a light mist off the large copper fountain is a welcome relief from the heat."

The Age Good Food Guide 2005 "SALSA is a riot of colossal cocktails, lively service and consistently good food. The beautiful old Queenslander has come up a treat after a recent spit and polish"
