Mietta's Review
The Wagamama chain looks set to take over the world or the very least Brisbane. Their 2004 opus in the Emporium seats 144 inside and out and has been described by one reviewer as "like going to the ekka ... noisy, crowded and chaotic". It provides western food with Japanese flavours. One has to impressed by the the slickness of the operation. In 06 mains averaged $16.

Other published opinions

Courier Mail food and wine guide Queensland 2008 "The formula works brilliantly: fresh, modern Japanese-derived dishes - all of them appealing; communal seating; brisk, cheerful service; and a buzzy atmosphere"

Brisbane News Dining Out Guide 2007 "After opening in London 15 years ago, Wagamama came to Brisbane a little over two years ago with a mantra to serve nutritious food in a sleek setting"

Courier-Mail Good Life Restaurant Guide 2006 "The menu is split into sections for noodles, teriyaki dishes, stir-fries, salads and katsu or Japanese curry. The staff are young, animated and friendly"

Brisbane News Eating Out Guide 2006 "This is a concept that's worked well in other major cities of the world. Communal tables encourage diners to chat over their teriyaki chicken, chilli squid or seijku beef salad."

Courier-Mail GoodLife Bar Guy Mosel 16/8/05 "DINING at Wagamama is a bit like going to the Ekka. It's crowded, noisy and chaotic. If the thought of wolfing down hastily prepared food in a canteen-like environment sets your teeth on edge, why not take a look at the restaurant's fashionably nameless lounge bar, the only one of its kind in the global Wagamama family. Lucky us."

Courier Mail Good Life 29/5/03 Lizzie Loel "Long, narrow communal tables stretch across the restaurant. A shelf takes handbags and briefcases and diners are encouraged - actually, they are told - to sit opposite, rather than side-by-side. A waiter then comes and plonks him/herself down next to you and begins to run through the menu, flick through a pictorial handbook and scribble all over your paper placemat. ... Food comes fast and randomly. My main arrived before my drinks or starters. I'd ordered a fresh juice to start and then a glass of wine. The wine came first, then the juice, then the mains and then my starter. The score Food: 14, Wine: 10, Service: 14, Ambience: 15"
