JoyfulPh: 3272 4777; 9/210 Kameruka St, CALAMVALE 4116 Chinese, $$ - Other published opinions Courier Mail Food and Wine Guide 2009 Queensland "This tiny BYO restaurant hides out in a strip of shops in downtown Calamvale, and for those in the know it serves some of the best Szechuan cuisine in the state" Brisbane News 7-5-2008 Tony Harper Score: Food 8 Wine N/A Service 7 Ambience 6 "For most Brisbane News readers, Calamvale is a trek with a packed lunch and a five-litre water bottle, but I kid you not - if you are not afraid of chilli, it's worth it. The restaurant itself holds little allure. It sits near one end of a strip of shops on a busy road, and it's furnished after the fashion of most suburban Chinese restaurants. That means fairly bare bones: no tablecloths, in fact it's a box of tissues rather than napkins of any sort (I guess that's because of the chilli content), basic stemware, and plenty of vinyl, and it's BYO. ... ignore the menu completely. What appears on the "English" menu board is a series of predictably commonplace Chinese food. What we ate at Joyful was neither commonplace nor listed on the English menu, only the Chinese." |
