Mietta's Review
Under the Palace Backpackers Hotel you'll find Zi Bar. The house cocktails include the seven deadly sins but if the budget doesn't run to sinning then you can always eat. Food is a fairly extreme version of the modern Australian mixture which works better than it should and in 06 mains averaged $9. Quiet during the day the place comes to life after dark when the backpackers return.

Courier-Mail Goodlife Restaurant Guide 2006 "Unless you're a backpacker you may not know about Zi Bar, because it's in the basement of the Edward St entrance to the Palace Backpackers Hotel, that used to be the Salvation Army People's Palace. During the day it's nice and quiet, with its rounded padded pouffes and streetfacing high benches, but it really swings at night when the young folk come back after their daily tourist fix."

Courier Mail 3/5/05 Alison Coates "There is food as well as alcohol at Zi Bar, but we'll come to that later, after we've worked our way through at least some of the Seven Deadly Sins on offer. ... At night it's strictly party time, with tapas the only food on offer, but the hearty breakfasts are good healthy value, starting at $5 for fresh fruit and unsweetened yoghurt, or Bircher muesli for the same price. ... The score Food: 15 Service: 16 (except for busy times) Ambience: 14 Value for money: 13"
