The blackboard in the bar promises a seven course lunch for an economical price, and you have to check the fine print to discover that it consists of a six pack and a pie. Fortunately there's an alternative lunch in the dining room behind the bar. There's usually a hot dish of stew or curry, cold chicken and roast lamb and a variety of salad veg, and it's all surprisingly good considering how far Birdsville is from anywhere. The real attraction though is the historic atmsophere. The pub's been a favourite hangout of drovers since the 1880's, and you can view an astonishing collection of their battered hats hanging behind the bar.
