Mietta's Review
A small noisy restaurant with without any mahjong players in evidence amongst the mixture of tat and alternative Chinese decor. Good food at good prices in trendy Crown St. It's a good local haunt.

Other published opinions

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2009 Score: 13/20 "A cute, box-shaped room astutely arranged with Maoist pop art and bric-a-brac lends an eccentric bent to this quirky establishment, perfectly suiting its spot on the cusp of Oxford Street"

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 13/20 "Quiet, small, restrained, with no kids running between the tables, this is not your typical Chinese restaurant"

Sydney Eats 2008 "In almost no time, this place has become one of Crown Street's heavyweights, as much for the quality of the food as the little extras they provide, like mahjong classes with yum cha 11am2pm and 2.3o-5.3opm every second Saturday of the month"

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2007 Score: 13/20 "Mahjong Room charms as you walk in the door, instantly evoking a contemporary Shanghai eatery. A painting sprays petals across a white wall, Chinese objects and artefacts are artfully strewn around, and tables for two flank a narrow corridor."

SMH Good Food Guide 2005 Score 13/20 "So where's the mahjong? More importantly, where are the Cantonese grandmothers smoking and chattering over the clack of the mahjong tiles? Instead you've got small clutches of tables in the front, side and back rooms and a crowd of Surry Hillbillies bickering over who gets the last crab gow gee. It's no bad thing, really."

Sydney Eats 2005 "Much like the excellent food here, the stylishly kooky decor (part Oriental, part bric-abrac) might be described as Chinese with a twist. Still, we knows what we likes, and it's all still on the menu"

SMH GFG 2004, Score 13/20,And-eat well and generously and still be out in an hour,'The space, like the food, looks more to China's Shanghai than Canton with its design sense, but looks to local tradition for the welcoming feel.'

SMH, Good Living, 22/7/03, Matthew Evans,'A series of rooms with fab, regioal Chinese dishes served at traditional tables.'

The Weekend Australian, 1-2/2/03, Louise Milligan,' incredibly inexpensive...everyone feels like guests of honour...Just honest, down-to-earth passion about food and service'
