Mietta's Review
This favourite is the best of all the eateries in Leichhardt and Norton Street combined. Regarded as a restaurant that aims to provide the type of dining experience you'd like to offer if you were inviting a small group of guests to your home. The essentials are a simple Italian approach using the freshest of produce, a comfortable environment and great service. This eatery has a clean, smart look about it. Mr Cordaro is always approachable and, with the help of almost all his family members, runs a wonderful business.

Other published opinions

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 14/20 "For nearly a decade elio has championed the principle of 'less is more' far better than most. The glass-fronted main room is simple and stylish, with sleek timber floors, a marble bar and open kitchen to the rear, and an indoor/outdoor back room behind"

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2007 Score: 14/20 "elio bares all to the street - full-frontal glass shows off a smart, casual space, midriff marble bar, open kitchen, polished floorboards and clean lines. Last year's renovations are a lesson in minimalist, casual elegance for both design and atmosphere."

SBS Eating Guide to Sydney 2005 "a beautiful modern space with two floors and an open kitchen. It was one of the first more contemporary eateries on the new look Norton Street strip and it has quite a following."

SMH Good Food Guide 2005 Score 14/20 "Is this Sydney's prettiest dish? A Roman mosaic of thinly sliced octopus tentacle covers a plate, with a thatch of julienned fennel and carefully peeled orange segments. It's certainly packed with flavour, and that's what makes this cool, informal restaurant, with wooden tables topped with butcher's paper, so popular."

Sydney Eats 2005 "To many, Norton Street's rep for fine Italian dining is a bubble waiting to burst. Elio is one of the few ristoranti to hold the line, partly because Robyn Touchard's food breaks new ground without losing touch with la vera cucina."

Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide Australia 2004 1 Black Star,'The menu is refreshingly simple...A reasonably priced wine list includes a good Itailan selection...Service is efficient and in keeping with the restaurant's casual but eminently competent mood.'

SMH GFG 2004, Score 14/20, 1 Hat-consistenly very good,'effortless Italian style...It is at once contemporary and exuberant, and with a menu that's similarly simple, bold and beguiling. The listed dishes are familar enough, but most have an elegant twist, raising them above the ordinary.'
