Mietta's Review
As huge (200 seats) and smart as you'd expect from the Kam Fook group. Big tables, and a big queue to get one of them, are packed with extended Chinese families noisily enjoying the ritual of yum cha. Lots of trolleys stacked with dumplings work the room. Given the numbers it should come as no surprise that the quality can vary from excellent to ordinary and the service is businesslike rather than caring. Still this is a great infusion of life and vitality into Bondi Junction's Westfield shopping centre.

Other published opinions

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2009 "It's just the spot to refuel in between doses of retail therapy, although yum cha rush hours can be busier and more terse than the New Year sales"

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2009 Score: 13/20 "Chinese in upscale shopping centres? Kam Fook has cornered the market. While the Chatswood branch still struggles, the glitzier, more atmospheric Bondi Junction venue makes diners feel welcome"

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2008 Score: 12.5/20 "From the organised chaos of yum cha to the more refined dinnertime theatrics of sizzling hotpots and portable carving tables, there's always something begging your attention at this smart shopping centre Chinese"

Sydney Eats 2008 "Yum cha devotees will remember this name from the 8oo.seater on the top floor of Chinatown's Market City, but while that's now moved to Chatswood, this more intimate 280seater offshoot remains"

SMH Good Living Mathew Evans 26/7/05 score 14/20 "The Kam Fook brand rolls on, now with a benchmark yum cha at Bondi Junction. Waiting can be a pain on weekends but is usually worth it. ... The Wine List Pretty well rounded, lots of cognac and, if you're brave, there's Chinese wine. The Service Can be gruff, can be endearing. The Noise Loud. The Bill Entrees $5.30-$15; mains $15-$25; desserts $5.30-$6. The Value Good."

SBS Eating Guide to Sydney 2005 "In the great tradition of yum cha palaces in shopping centres, Kam Fook has triumphed with this smart new venue in the consumer paradise that is Bondi Junction's massive Westfield shopping complex"
