Sydney Morning Herald Lenny Ann Low, Review, 13-10-2008 "On a warm and breezy night, the treasured chum and I enter the Rum Diaries, a small buzzing miracle of a bar devoted to rum and tapas-style food. It has minimal street signs and is behind inconspicuous brick archways but the raucous laughter and jazz sounds coming from inside get our attention. It's 8pm on a Monday but inside the low-lit, wood-panelled front room the vibe is Saturday night party. Small, lacquered recycled wood tables are close together, surrounded by elegant second-hand chairs that are crammed with patrons, young and old. ... a man, who later turns out to be our waiter, is transforming a brief tinkle at the upright piano at the back into a full-blown honky-tonk jazz piece."
