Mietta's Review
Another Bondi Beach institution. One wonders how this place got its name - is gelato native to Budapest? What they do here is jewishy eastern European cooking - schnitzels, goulash, stroganoff, you name it, all served by a colourful staff in a comfortable setting. Whatever you do save room for dessert (in particular the Poppy Seed Cake); you would have to go to Melbourne's Acland Street in St Kilda to find a comparable sweet.

SBS Eating Guide to Sydney 2005 "Founded way back in 1958 by a Hungarian immigrant, George Berge, the current owners are his sons Peter and Andrew. It's the place for matzo ball soup and bean soup, giant gypsy platters and great European food like schnitzels, as well as breakfast, as Gourmet Safaris guide Susy Schenker reminds us, 'especially the Hungarian scrambled eggs'."
